iPad

I haven't posted anything in a whiled, but I have a list going of the things I want to post, so stay tuned! (I promise it will be within the next week). Until then, anyone have any cool or worthwhile applications for iPads? I got one for Christmas (because my family ROCKS!!) and am still trying to figure out what exactly I should have on it. I LOVE flipboard (http://www.flipboard.com/) - and as soon as I figure out how to navigate everything in safari, I'll add links. Until then, sorry for the addresses. Hope everyone had a good holday!

  1. A couple of free applications I've found are useful:

Pulse News Reader - This is a customizable news reader application which is one of the best I've seen, and whose UI is very intuitive. The best thing about this app is that you can quickly scan the news of the day in a matter of a minute or two, but if you need more detail you can dive down into the individual sections.

Dragon Dictation - This is a great program for taking notes and is pretty accurate. This is a text to speech program and is quite impressive (especially considering the price).

Netflix Viewer - While technically the app is free, the application does require a subscription to use, but I've included the app since one of the reasons people like the iPad is because of the screen and it is ideal as a media viewer.

Some other educational apps may be useful for you are:

Read Me Stories: This is an education app which does just what it says - it reads stories for younger readers. I should note it does have a paid option in it for book orders, but it does have some nice options in the free version.

The Grouchies - This is an amusing application which helps to teach younger kids how to deal with their grouchy moods. It may be helpful when you see an attack of the grouchies!

I hope these apps are a good start! If I see other good ones, I'll add another comment. Enjoy the new iPad!

  2. Thank you, Matt! I'll definitely check these out! I've heard of Dragon Dictation before - I have Dragon for email on my phone and it works pretty well, so I'll be interested to see how this one works. Pulse News Reader sounds great, too. That's one of the reasons I like flipboard so much - it puts all of the blogs and whatnot I follow into a magazine-like . . . thing. (very technical description, I know) It makes it a breeze to quickly browse through them. The other app I love and am completely addicted to is Angry Birds. lol Oh, and I'm going to have to check out the Grouchies! Thanks again!
